R9,000 is truly an upper mid-range phone in 2026.
The Honor X9D was announced in September 2025 and, honestly, we love the design—apart from the patterned finish on the rear. We think Honor is trumping the Android space in South Africa. You still get a charging plug in this economy, which is a major win regardless of your generation or age.

Durability and Display
The IP68 rating is a standard requirement for our team, and looking at competitors with a feature-packed offering like the Honor X9D, it makes sense that this phone should fly off the shelves. The display is something to rave about: a 6.79-inch punchy AMOLED screen which competes with flagship Samsungs and the likes of a certain “fruity” brand, too.
The X series has a reputation for durability, and the X9D is doing nothing less, boasting a build that is:
- Dust-tight and water-resistant (high-pressure water jets; submersible up to 6m).
- Drop-resistant up to 2.5m.
Camera and Performance
You’ll be getting a 108MP main camera (a wide lens with phase detection autofocus) and an additional 5MP ultrawide camera with optical image stabilisation. We’ve had the device for two weeks’ use, and as battery life is always a priority and a win for the consumer when it comes to Honor devices, the 8,300mAh cell is going to let you stay on the move without a charge for more than 24 hours.
Personally, we feel that the Honor selfie camera is amazing with its 16MP wide lens, but why do we still have to add 4K footage on the selfie camera to our wishlist?
Android 15 is excellent as usual with MagicOS 9, but with the added performance backing of a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, we are happy we didn’t get a MediaTek on this device. As expected, the phone is super durable and Honor hit the spot with this device boasting 12GB of RAM as standard across the board in South Africa. What are your thoughts?
