The main reason for writing this piece, apart from announcing that the new Huawei P40 Lite is available in South Africa, is the fact that Huawei phones are now launched with Android software but without any Google apps. Yes, I said it in a simple way so we all understand. Huawei now has their own Huawei App Gallery The Huawei P40 lite comes with the latest Android version 10 but with no Google Management System (GMS) behind it. The P40 lite retails for R6,499 (freebies included) and contracts at R379p/m.
So let’s talk about what this means if you buy one of the new Huawei phones from 2020 onward. We all know and have heard something about the Huawei ban and Trade wars last year in 2019, since then, Huawei mobile phones are no longer backed by Google Services. This makes no difference in their hardware and much of their software experience is still the same (mostly). The Huawei Y7p and P40 Lite are the first phones without GMS to go on sale in South Africa,. The phones are still manufactured by Huawei in the great quality in which they are (If I might say), and still really good purchases if you want a good Android smartphone. Some key features of the Huawei P40 Lite below:

The Huawei mobile phones from 2020 onward will no longer come with the Google Play store, instead your new Huawei P40 Lite will arrive out of the box with the company’s own application store, The Huawei App Gallery. It is still feature packed and you should find most of your apps that you use daily in there (Yes, all of your social apps are there – Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, WhatsApp etc.), the only difference is that you cannot download any Google applications. You will have to use the Email application set up your email on your phone (if you use Gmail that is) and your Google maps app can be replaced by Waze or Here WeGO . Huawei commits to growing their App Gallery and also allows #developers to feature their apps in the Huawei App Gallery.

Huawei still provides amazing handsets at competitive prices and with the success of the P30, P30 Pro and P30 lite in 2019, I would definitely see this phone to be a major seller in South Africa, Google or no Google. #Huawei #Android #Mobile #Applications #Developers #Technology #Blog
