Recently, I have made the infamous transition from Android to Apple. Dealing with all the admin during this transition can be so traumatic but at the same time the change is a pleasant one. Learning to appreciate what you have and what you helps you arrive at the following conclusions.
Getting Started…
So setting up your new iPhone, coming from an Android device, is no walk in the park. You need to set up an AppleID which seems very overwhelming, since all your previous apps were connected to your Google addresses, you need to start from scratch. At first you would wonder why Apple wants all your details and you feel that it is all personal… then the truth hits you, that Google already has all your details that locked you into Android and now Apple is simply doing the same. Realise this as soon as possible and accept that you will now have a Google account and an AppleID, the quicker you do this, the quicker you will get your apps installed. Change is not always bad, even if it is tough in the beginning – in this case, the beginning does not last too long.
- Remember that Google apps will have to be installed. (YouTube, Gmail and Google Drive)
Getting into it…
By now your apps are installed and set up. You feel that you need to start enjoying the iOS experience. What you are starting to appreciate is the process, no long loading screens or a phone running slow because you have 12 apps open. Try uninstalling an app and see how fast your iPhone is – the phone uninstalls apps immediately and does NOT require a restart. The best word to describe the iPhone experience is FAST. Install the iTunes desktop app as soon as possible to get the most of your new baby – this is actually necessary, since you cannot just download music from any website.

Pros
- All my apps are optimised for my phone. Since there are 1000’s of Android phones, apps always behave differently on each handset.
- Really premium build from the 4 to the IPhone 7 Plus – I have played around with all of them and using one daily, truly makes you appreciate
- The camera’s focus is really good, in low light or well lit settings.
- SOCIAL NETWORKING is the bomb dot com – It is as if Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp and Snapchat were made by Apple. Superfast and great quality of media.
- The IPhone is really fast, unlike many of the Android phones I have used. I canNOT get this IPhone to slow down. (I have the IPhone 6 32GB with a 1.8GhZ processor)
Cons
- I have to pay for good apps.
- I can’t download music from my browser – which is now Safari and not chrome.
- The apps are so much bigger for iOS apps and IPhone has NO expandable storage.
- No customizing – widgets are boring and no themes for those theme lovers.
Verdict
When setting your phone up, it seems really overwhelming, the change is huge and getting used to this one button to do everything feels like you are being deprived from accessibility. Once you are all set up, you just want your phone to do everything for you.
The truth is that it is just not Google, and always having Google to turn to no matter what is always welcoming and so I will say Android is GREAT and so is iOS. Being a techy, I will still want an Android device and appreciate the both spheres to the mobile industry.
