So for those who do not know, the Nexus line of cellphones are actually sourced by Google themselves. Allowing users (us) to experience the true Android software on a device. Plain, stock Android interface means NO bloatware, no extra apps apart from the ones you need (at least the ones that Google thinks you need).  We felt that the phone came with just what you needed and that is exactly why we had a SUPERB experience. For R5530.00ZAR (32GB model)  I think this is the most worth it purchase for anybody looking for a great phone, at a great price.

THOUGHTS. Our favourite part about the phone was the Camera, we can truly say that we wish the design was a bit better, Yes, the phone is plastic, although it feels really premium. Somehow, it’s matte finish creates a rich feel in the hand which even during my daily usage, surprised others too. At  times the handset might seem a bit bulky, because of the camera hump at the back, but because the camera performs so well AND the phone never lagged (while we had the review unit), it seems petty to complain about

THE CAMERA. This was the highlight of the entire review period. Never have I used a phone at this price that delivered such amazing picture quality, ESPECIALLY in low-light conditions. In lighting conditions where you would like to see more colour HDR+ does wonders. The camera software is really stock with no fancy tweaks, and it really does not need any of it.

No HDR+, just focused.

COMPARISONS. Similar cellphones in the price range with similar features would be:

  • Sony Xperia XA
  • Huawei P9 Lite
  • Moto G4 Plus

OVERALL.  Reviewing this phone was a pleasure, I get sad when i unbox phones and its missing earphones but that seems to becoming the trend lately. With Google updating its Nexus line this well, we can only expect greater things from its two new releases this year.
